Moving Nunavut.
Creating Opportunities.

Our Story

Built on a Simple Belief

Nunavut Moving & Services (NMS) was founded in 2014 by Abdoul-Karim Diakite in Iqaluit. From the beginning, our purpose has been bigger than moving boxes from one place to another. We created NMS to build opportunities for Nunavummiut and to demonstrate that a successful northern business can also make a meaningful difference in the community.

The idea came from something Abdoul-Karim witnessed firsthand: too many Inuit, particularly young people, were struggling to find employment because of past circumstances, including minor criminal records. A mistake or difficult period in someone's life could become a barrier to earning an income, gaining experience and moving forward.

Our philosophy has remained simple: if someone is willing to work, learn and contribute, their past should not automatically determine their future.

More Than a Moving Company

Northern Expertise, Built Over a Decade

Since 2014, NMS has grown from a small Iqaluit business into an experienced northern moving and logistics company serving individuals, families, businesses, organizations and government clients.

Operating in Nunavut requires a very different approach from operating a moving company in southern Canada. Weather, limited transportation options, air cargo capacity, sealift schedules, remote communities and the high cost of supplies all affect how a move must be planned.

More than a decade of working in this environment has given our team practical northern expertise that cannot be learned from a manual.

Northern Focus

Our Mission

"To provide dependable, professional and locally delivered moving and logistics services throughout Nunavut while creating meaningful employment, developing northern skills and ensuring that people are given an opportunity to succeed regardless of their circumstances."

Our People & Community

Investing in Nunavummiut

NMS has made the employment and development of Nunavummiut, particularly Inuit and youth, an important part of how we operate. We provide employees with practical work experience, mentorship and opportunities to develop skills in moving, packing, logistics, customer service, workplace safety and equipment handling.

We believe economic development in Nunavut should create opportunities for the people who live here. When our company grows, we want that growth to translate into more employment, more skills and more money remaining within northern communities.

Our Values

What We Stand For

O

Opportunity

We believe people deserve the opportunity to demonstrate what they can do.

R

Respect

We treat our customers, employees, their belongings and the communities we serve with dignity.

R

Reliability

In the North, people depend on us to deliver despite complex logistics and challenging conditions.

S

Safety

We prioritize safe work practices, proper handling and the protection of our employees, customers and property.

C

Community

Our success should contribute to stronger communities and greater economic participation in Nunavut.

N

Northern Capacity

Whenever possible, we develop local workers and local solutions instead of relying on fly-in capacity from outside the community.

Why Choose NMS

The Northern Difference

There are moving companies, and there are northern moving companies. Here is what more than a decade of operating in Nunavut means for your project.

1

Genuine Northern Experience

NMS has operated in Nunavut since 2014. We understand air cargo, sealift schedules, community infrastructure, weather disruptions, and the realities of northern logistics. Our experience is not theoretical — it was built one project at a time in Iqaluit and across Nunavut.

2

Trusted by Government & Major Organizations

We have provided services to federal and territorial government clients including the Government of Nunavut, CIRNAC, CanNor, Elections Canada, and the 2021 Census. Government clients require documentation, accountability, scheduling, and confidentiality — and we deliver on all of them.

3

Experienced With Sensitive Assignments

Not every move is straightforward. We have handled confidential documents, election materials, census materials, Inuit artwork, sensitive equipment, and high-value cargo. We understand that some assignments require more than physical strength — they require discretion, care, and accountability.

4

Adaptable to Northern Challenges

In the North, plans change. Flights get cancelled. Cargo gets delayed. Weather creates complications. Our team is experienced at finding solutions when things do not go according to plan. We do not simply follow a southern playbook — we adapt to the realities of operating in the Arctic.

5

Full-Service Logistics Under One Roof

From packing and moving to warehousing, final-mile delivery, sealift preparation, air cargo coordination, and furniture assembly — NMS provides a full range of logistics services. Working with one provider simplifies coordination and reduces the risk of gaps between service providers.

6

Community-Rooted, Locally Operated

NMS is a Nunavut company. Our team lives and works here. We are not a southern company sending crews north for a project — we are part of the community we serve. That means we are accountable, accessible, and invested in doing the job right.

Move more than belongings.

Move people and communities forward.

With more than a decade of experience in Nunavut, NMS understands that every move is different. Whether we are helping a family relocate, moving an office, handling sensitive equipment or coordinating cargo — our objective remains the same: plan carefully, handle responsibly and deliver reliably.
